Specific Materials Asbestos Inspection: Roof/Soil/Dust
Materials such as roof, soil and dust require specialized approach both in the way the samples are collected and the way they are processed by the lab.
Sample Collection:
We will collect samples typical of each inspection type, following the required procedures for that specific inspection.
Laboratory Analysis:
All collected samples will be analyzed by a certified laboratory to ensure accurate identification of asbestos presence.
Reporting:
We will compile a detailed, easy-to-understand report summarizing all findings, conclusions, and recommendations. Please check the section Special Services to see what are your options for expediting lab results and thus the report.
Point Count Analysis
Point Count Analysis should be utilized when trace quantities of asbestos (less than 1%) are detected in friable surface materials. This technique offers greater precision than the standard method that is used to determine asbestos content and is the only method recognized by regulatory authorities as reliable for assessing asbestos levels.
This additional verification is recommended only for demolition inspections to ensure that the demolition application is not rejected by authorities due to uncertain results obtained from traditional analysis methods.
Composite Analysis
This method is used only when friable surface material such as drywall tests negative for asbestos while associated with it joint compound tests positive. Composite Analysis, in the majority of cases, allows to bring the initial asbestos value below 1% and thus eliminate the need for abatement.
Certified Asbestos Partial/Full Demolition Inspection
Partial demolition - an operation in which one or more load-supporting structural members are wrecked or removed.
Full demolition - the wrecking or removal of all load-supporting structural members of a facility together with any handling of debris related to the demolition, the intentional burning of any facility, or moving a facility from a permanent foundation.
For demolition projects, a certified asbestos inspection is mandatory. Additionally, a certified inspector must sign a Demolition Application, which must be filed with the CDPHE to initiate the permitting process.
Sample Collection:
During each Demolition Inspection, we will collect bulk samples from all materials that may contain asbestos. Asbestos demolition inspections are destructive in their nature, i.e.: we will tear apart structures that cover other structures to ensure that all suspect materials were inspected.

Certified Asbestos Renovation Inspection
Renovation involves modifying any component within or on a facility while maintaining the integrity of all load-supporting structural elements.
This inspection is recommended for materials installed prior to 1989 and it is mandatory when the affected area is larger than 32 square feet, regardless of when it was first erected.
Sample Collection:
During each Renovation Inspection, we will collect bulk samples from all materials designated for removal or disturbance. For example, if the renovation includes the removal of old linoleum and the demolition of a partition wall, samples will be taken from both materials.
The number of samples required complies with state and federal regulations, varying according to the type of suspected material. For example, we will collect two samples from the linoleum, three from the drywall, and two additional samples from the joint compound.

Non-Certified Asbestos DIY Testing
In this service, we will arrange for the lab analysis of provided samples, and we will deliver a report with the lab results and a full description of hazardous materials.
We will send a full instruction on what samples are required (their size), how to collect them, and how to pack and describe them.
There are two delivery options: the samples can be dropped off or mailed in at the following address: 9800 Mount Pyramid Ct Suite #400, Englewood, CO 80112.There is no inspection and no inspection costs, but since a certified inspector is not the one who evaluates the materials and collects the samples, there is no certification, and the report that we will provide will not be recognized by the authorities or other service providers.

Certified Asbestos Inspection for Renovation Projects over 7,000 sq. ft.
This asbestos inspection is meant for big projects that require pulling tens or hundreds of samples and a few days of work. The final estimation can be provided after an initial short inspection during which an inventory of works will be prepared.
The samples will be pulled over an agreed period of time, and they will be analyzed by a certified laboratory for asbestos presence. Any material containing more than 1% of asbestos fibers will be reported as containing asbestos and will be subject to asbestos abatement.
Asbestos abatement is not part of this service, but should you need it, we can recommend a certified asbestos abatement contractor.
Demolition is defined as an act of removing some (Partial Demolition) or all (Full Demolition) of the load-bearing members from the structure. Any demolition in Colorado needs to be preceded by asbestos testing and obtaining a Demolition Permit from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE).
Certified Asbestos Large Renovation Inspection
In this inspection, we will take bulk samples from multiple suspect materials that will be removed or disturbed during the renovation. Typically this type of inspection is needed when there is a plan to renovate a whole house or remodel areas such as the kitchen or bathroom. In kitchens and bathrooms, multiple suspect materials such as dry walls, floors, ceilings, tiles, and glues and grouts can be found.
State and federal regulations require a minimum of 3 samples per homogeneous material, but the number of samples increases with the total area of this material.:
The samples will be analyzed by a certified laboratory for asbestos presence, and any material containing more than 1% of asbestos fibers will be reported as containing asbestos and will be subject to asbestos abatement.
Asbestos abatement is not part of this service, but should you need it, we can recommend a certified asbestos abatement contractor.
This inspection is recommended whenever materials are known to have been installed before 1989, and it is obligatory when the affected area is larger than 32 square feet, regardless of when it was first erected.
Certified Asbestos Medium Renovation Inspection
In this inspection, we will take bulk samples from 3 or 4 different suspect materials that will be removed or disturbed during the renovation. For example, if the plan is to remove old linoleum, knock down a division dry wall, and replace the popcorn ceiling, we will take samples from all these.

Less Than 1000 sq ft = 3 samples
More Than 1000 sq ft = 5 samples
More Than 5000 sq ft = 7 samples
If unknown or unsure of sq ft = 9 samples
Homogeneous material – building material used in different parts of the building but believed by the Inspector to be one and the same due to its physical features such as color, texture, hardness, year of production, and overall physical state. Popcorn ceilings in 3 bedrooms in a house can be made of one homogeneous material and will be tested as one material or can be made of three different materials and will be tested separately. If they are one Homogeneous material and their total area is under 1000 sq. ft. the inspector will pull three samples. If each popcorn ceiling is made of a different material, the Inspector will collect three samples from each of them, in total nine samples. The final number of samples that need to be collected is always determined by the Inspector on-site after the inspection of all the materials that need to be tested for asbestos.
Asbestos is currently banned for most construction uses, but it can still be found in older structures and building materials as well as in recently erected structures if the materials were imported from countries that have not banned asbestos. Here are some of the places you might find asbestos today:
Wall Texture • Joint Compound • Popcorn Ceilings • Linoleum/Vinyl Flooring • VCT 9×9 Floor Tile • VCT 12×12 Floor Tile • Ceiling Tiles • Electrical Wiring • Textiles • Roofing Felt • Roofing Shingles • Siding • Wall Board • Mastic / Glue • Attic and Wall Insulation • Vermiculite • Artificial fireplace fixtures and logs • Heating and Electrical Ducts • Floor and wall tiles • Pipe coating and insulation • HVAC Furnace Boiler jackets, doors, pipes and gaskets
You should test for asbestos whenever you plan to renovate any surface in an old house or whenever you suspect that the elements you are going to move, remove, knock down, or demolish may contain asbestos.
You are legally obligated to test for asbestos prior to any renovation works that disturb a surface larger than 32 square feet. This requirement applies regardless of the age of the structure you are disturbing.
Other trigger levels for asbestos tests are
– 50 linear feet on pipes and
– the volume equivalent of a 55-gallon drum.
If you are planning on doing any kind of renovation project it is possible you need an asbestos inspection prior to construction to verify no asbestos containing materials will be disturbed. Both residential and commercial buildings typically need appropriate asbestos sampling.
The EPA and the CDPHE of Colorado regulate the amount of asbestos that can be disturbed during any specific project. Colorado Air Quality Control Commission Regulation 8, Part B dictates, in part, that you must test for asbestos-containing building materials any time you will disturb, damage or remove any suspect building materials.
If a project starts with out testing and then asbestos is found in the materials it makes it much more difficult to clean up and deal with than if precautions would have been taken in the beginning. Certified asbestos testing is an inexpensive insurance policy against possible fines, legal liability and costly project delays.
There are several regulations, such as the EPA Clean Air Act and the Colorado Air Pollution Prevention and Control Act, that govern how asbestos-containing material should be identified and properly handled. These regulations seek to prevent serious health risks to workers and the public. Asbestos is known to have long term health affects and should be taken with precaution when starting any new construction project.

There is sometimes confusion with the definition of Renovation and Demolition. In the Asbestos world the word Demolition is defined as the removal of a load bearing member. This means if any part of the structure that is load bearing and is going to be impacted during the project then you would need a Partial-Demolition or Full Demolition inspection. A renovation inspection is anything other than demolition such as:
EnvioCore is able to help you understand what could be needed on your specific project. Feel free to give us a call or chat online with any questions!
In Colorado, it is mandatory to acquire an Asbestos Demolition Permit if you are disturbing a load-bearing member, regardless of the size of the project. It is crucial to follow all regulations and guidelines set forth by Colorado’s Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) to ensure the safety of everyone involved in the project. Acquiring an Asbestos Demolition Permit is a critical step in protecting the health and well-being of workers, residents, and the general public.
Here are some important points to consider:

Demolition asbestos inspections are crucial in ensuring the safe removal of any asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) before demolition work can begin. Here are some of the benefits of choosing EnvioCore for your demolition asbestos inspections:
Choosing EnvioCore for your demolition asbestos inspections can provide you with the peace of mind that your property is safe for demolition and that you are complying with all necessary regulations.
There are various types of projects where demolition asbestos testing may be required to identify and remove any asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) safely. Some common examples of such projects include:
It’s crucial to have a licensed and experienced asbestos testing company, like EnvioCore, conduct a thorough inspection to identify any ACMs and develop a plan for safe removal to protect the health and safety of everyone involved in the demolition or renovation process.
Asbestos can be found in vinyl flooring, floor tiles, popcorn ceilings, HVAC ducts, shingles, siding, and more. The only certain way to know if building materials contain asbestos is to sample each material individually.
EnvioCore can identify suspect building materials and collect appropriate samples as required by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE). We then provide a detailed report that outlines the lab findings. This report provides the information necessary for you to apply for any necessary building permits and keep your project moving forward.
This is a normal request. Your city or county is required by the state of Colorado to ask for this information. To read the state bulletin explaining the general requirements, click here.
Currently In the state of Colorado, ALL properties (Commercial and Residential) and ALL years need to be inspected for asbestos before any renovation or demolition project. To read more information about Colorado’s requirements, click here.
A Demolition according to the State of Colorado (CDPHE) is when a load bearing member is going to be removed. We would call this a partial demolition if the whole structure was NOT going to be demolished.
If the entire structure is going to be brought to the ground then that is considered a Full-Demolition.
If a Demolition is going to occur then a demolition application must be filled out. The owner needs to fill out everything first then the inspector can sign the form once appropriate asbestos abatement has been performed. If no asbestos was found then the permit can be signed right away.
EnvioCore can perform both types of inspections depending on your Project. We would identify the suspect building materials, collect the appropriate samples as required by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE). We will then provide you with a detailed report outlining all the findings for the suspect materials. This report will let you apply for any necessary building permits so you can continue your project.
This is a routine request. Colorado law requires that local authorities ask for this information. You can find the state bulletin that explains these requirements by clicking here.
A partial demotlition is when a load bearing member is removed and not the whole structure brought down.
